There is beauty, power, and resiliency in developing your own sensitivity, judgment, and taste.
It lends itself to your creativity and your critical thinking. But, this takes time, and sometimes it is uncomfortable, new, or overwhelming.
In our world, that often feels like we can’t keep up and we need to constantly move more quickly, it might feel easier to rely on AI to do our thinking and to make suggestions to us on how or what to make, write, think, or do. But that’s the magical part of being human—AI cannot feel what you feel. It cannot experience what you experience. It cannot understand the nuance of life here on Earth, nor can it develop individual judgement, taste, or sensitivity in the way that living creatures, like ourselves, can.
I believe that there is a place for AI in our world. I believe that it has immense potential to help us in a variety of ways, such as aiding in research, collecting and analyzing large datasets, contributing to medical breakthroughs, and more. But it’s moving too quickly and without enough checks and balances. It needs governance and policy to ensure that we use it in ethical, safe, and sustainable ways. This includes, but is not limited to, taking serious consideration of who is building AI, who is involved in building policy, and who and what are impacted by its implementation (including the Earth, other species besides humans, and our natural resources). At present, it’s being driven by a very small number of people with an immense amount of power and capital.
I believe that each person needs to evaluate how, why, and when they choose to use generative AI. And it cannot replace human critical thinking or creativity.
How I Use AI (as of August 27, 2026)
My relationship with AI is ever-evolving as all of ours should be. I primarily use AI to aid and complement research efforts, for clerical things like helping to cross-check citations and sources, and to assist when I’m working with CSS, HTML, and exploring other coding. I have more recently been testing out different AI agents to better understand its capabilities and limitations when it comes to mock-ups, building design systems, and visual outputs. As someone with an eternal thirst for knowledge and learning, I continue to explore ways to complement and enhance my work using AI and how it can be utilized to make life a little bit easier since it can’t yet do my laundry or take out the trash. I cite any use of AI in the credits/colophon of my work and in each project.
